Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way. —Leo Tolstoy, Anna Karenina (1877; trans. Constance Garnett)

this is the link to the 100 best book first lines

This line struck me tonight; weird how dysfunctional we are in our families, we learn warped stuff from our parents and we try not to do the same thing to our kids, but sometimes you just can’t get away from how you were raised.

Knowing and learning about my father’s family over the last few days has been interesting, it is insightful to know how alike some of the things are and how different other traits are. The perception is interesting too, who you know in your family, who you feel close too and why? How one person sees the other and how they can never meet in the middle. Why some kids are favored by one relative and not another?

Hh is favored by my parents over all the other kids ( boys) it is hard to make this o.k. for J who is their biological grand as well. Not to mention the unfairness around the SS D & D, but then you have Stevens Mom who is so wonderful to all the kids, and especially loves D younger. I am grateful all the kids have a grand like her to be a role model of fairness and equality to love them all.
